The city of Sarajevo is considered as one of the most important cities in the Balkansand has had a long
and rich history ever since it was founded by the Ottomans in the15th century. Thanks to its geographical position, since its origins it has been influenced by a great number of different cultures and civilizations which came together, struggled against one another, but then intermingled and reconciled on the very same land.
It was in Sarajevo where the assasination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, which sparkled World War I took place... And more recently, where the 1984 Winter Olympics were held.
At its heart is the Bascarsija, the old town market sector which is characterized by its many religious structures and examples of unique architecture. Don't miss out on the opportunity to walk through the labyrinth of narrow streets, mosques, restaurants and small shops in which skilled craftsmen create items of bronze, leather, gold and silver.
