Could the island of Mljet be Homer's Ogygia?
Some people say that Homer, while describing the enchanted island of Ogigia, Ulysses and the nymph Calypso, was actually referring to the island of Mljet.
True or not – this island is a real paradise for all those who enjoy intact nature and absolute tranquility.
The main attractions of the island are the two saltwater lakes, surrounded by a lovely thick forest. Enjoy a boat ride from the lakes to the islet of Melita and visit the Benedictine monastery of St. Mary dating from the 12th century.
There will be plenty of free time for sunbathing, strolling around the lakes or having a lunch in one of the charming local restaurants.
