GASTRO MARE
Gastro Mare is a special project (experience) tailor made for you, dear guests, in order to experience Mediterranean as it once was and to see how a life can be so simple and yet so fulfilling.
Just 50km from Dubrovnik, on Peljesac peninsula lies a small village named Kobas. Kobas is a center of our Gastro Mare project. Imagine no access roads, no mobile networks, no traffic, just peace and quiet of picturesque bay with transparent blue sea. Here families live out of fishing and wine and olive production in traditional way in their 500 years Old stone houses.
This tradition food, nature and culture is what Gastro Mare is all about.

Gastro Mare is a family of great chefs, experienced caterers, yacht masters and young enthusiasts combined with tradition and desire to make their guests feel like they found a new home here in Kobas. Our two resourants (Luka's Taverna and Bijelko) combined with our charter and excursion boats ( 12m motor yacht and 16m catamaran) can offer you unique experience of Dalmatian gastronomy and life.
You only have to make a wish...

It all began in a middle of 80`s with an idea to make a small grill under a beautiful pine tree, just on the sea shore for friends and hard workers fishermen. Kobas always was famous by sailors and fishermen, in each family that was tradition. Uncle Tony came from America, full of ideas and experience witch he made working like the youngest chef in Philadelphia, my family organized first fish picnics at that time in whole region. Well known agency Atlas had sailing boats, on their way to Ston they would stop in the middle of bay and said very loud what the guest would like to eat, because at that time there was no telephone in Kobas. After sightseeing through nice little town Ston, longest city walls after Chinese wall, oldest salt factory, pools with well known oysters, mussels, were coming back to Kobas bit tired and hungry, but ready for delicious and very simple meals, like octopus salad, fresh with just some vegetables and olive oil, fresh oysters, mussel buzaara, risottos, grilled fish
That was beginning of nautical tourism on these territories. Without internet and marketing it was hard to make advertising, but by the time sailors were aware of the peaceful bay away from all that massive tourism. The best season, the peak, happened 1990. If you ask anybody in Croatia, he would say those were the years. Tourist who was coming was relaxed more then ever, it was really special time and those who can remember, know. Then the war happened and everything collapsed. Uncle Tony went again on the sea, looking for next idea, and very soon found one. After developing two restaurants in Norway, he was always waiting for an opportunity to come home where he belongs. My father continued working on family tradition, now restaurant is called Lukas Tavern. Uncle Tony developed second restaurant called. Food and drinks by Uncle Tony |
